How did the APPLE PITT LLC
(Police Institute of Tactical Training)
end up with such an unusual name?

Back in the late 1970’s, then Karate Instructor Charles E. Humes, Jr. was teaching a civilian self-defense system that was called American Personal Protection Learning Exercise (APPLE). In the early 1980’s, he began writing training articles in major law enforcement magazines; and the self-defense system morphed into American Police Protection Learning Exercise. In the late 1980’s, he needed a name for his newly formed training company, which he chose Police Institute of Tactical Training (PITT). Because the acronym APPLE had been used for so long and was well recognized in police training circles, he combined the two acronyms and the APPLE PITT LLC was born.
